Spirent TestCenter: PostgreSQL errors when downgrading STC from 5.36 to lower versions

Environment/Versions
Spirent TestCenter 5.36
Answer

The PostgreSQL version installed with Spirent TestCenter through 5.35 was 10.21. With 5.36, PostgreSQL is upgraded to 14.3.  Downgrading from Spirent TestCenter 5.36 without uninstalling PostgreSQL 14.3 first will cause errors.

The first message will be:
Setup failed to get status for PostgreSQL windows service. PostgreSQL database configuration for Spirent TestCenter Application x64 will need to be done manually. Please contact Spirent support if you need assistance.

Setup will prompt for the password, and throw this error:
The password is incorrect, please try again
After 3 unsuccessful password retries, setup will exit.

Workaround to downgrade from 5.36 to lower versions:

  1. If you need to save any test results from 5.36, export them manually from TCIQ and store on the disk.
  2. Uninstall 5.36
  3. Uninstall postgres 14.3
  4. Delete C:\Program Files\PostgreSQL\14\data folder, to clean postgres installation and configuration.
  5. Install STC 5.35 or lower.
  6. Import saved test results in new version.
